Living the Laptop lifestyle

By Tom Jarvis

Living the laptop lifestyle, every marketers dream right, to be able to choose where and when you work sounds like an idyllic life but where do you begin?

I left my home Country England way back in 2000 when I decided to escape the Rat Race and live the dream! I sold up everything I had and moved to Spain in an old converted Mercedes 608 Bus, I have been involved in MLM and internet marketing since the internet was invented and always enjoyed doing anything that involved selling advertising or getting traffic to websites.

I knew this though was probably not going to be enough to sustain the kind of lifestyle that I was seeking so I bought some land and made a small riverside Campsite to provide extra income which it did successfully for a number of years until I sold it for a healthy sum.

Selling up in Spain before the crash of 2008 I found myself moving to Thailand with my laptop under my arm not really knowing what to expect but knew so long as I had an internet connection I would be able to make some money from my advertising programs that I had been with for quite some time now, great thing with Companies such as Paypal is you can work and get paid almost anywhere in the World making the laptop lifestyle possible.

I bought a nice house on a small housing development about an hour or so South of Bangkok and was quite happy there working online for a few hours a day and going to places I only dreamed that I would ever see, I traveled Northern Thailand and Laos for almost 4 Months before returning back to my house...and then it hit me ...I was bored of being on that little housing development and wanted more....

After speaking with another British ex-pat that had told me about Cambodia and some beautiful beaches where I could possibly rent a Bar for a few $100 a Month I was packing a few bits and pieces in my truck and off I went with my trusty laptop.

Me behind my Bar in Cambodia with My Son and his Cousin

I soon arrived in Sihanoukville in the Southern part of Cambodia where I must admit the Beaches are gorgeous and I soon found a small Bar/Restaurant to rent  which had been closed for a while , it took me a couple of Months to get it up and running again but with my laptop and a facebook page and a little online promotion I soon had backpackers knocking at the door looking for a place to stay and get something to eat and drink , I was the only Bar on the Beach in those days that  had bothered to put in Wi-fi which the travellers loved because they could contact their Families back home , You can imagine how busy I was being the only place with Wi-fi !.

to be continued ... in the meantime check out one of my favorite programs that has enabled me to travel and work for so long
